College Basketball Betting in Nebraska

College basketball is huge in Nebraska — both Husker hoops in Lincoln and the nationally relevant Creighton Bluejays in Omaha — but state law makes both off-limits at any Nebraska sportsbook. The rest of Division I is open, including March Madness games involving non-Nebraska schools.

The Bluejay Frustration

Creighton men's basketball is consistently nationally ranked and has reached the Elite Eight in recent tournaments — yet no Nebraska sportsbook can take a wager on a Bluejays game. For Omaha bettors, this is the single biggest pain point of the Nebraska law. The same restriction applies even when Creighton plays in a neutral-site tournament.

What You Can Bet

Every game between two non-Nebraska programs is available. The Big East (minus Creighton), Big Ten (minus Nebraska), SEC, ACC, Big 12, Pac-12 successor leagues, and every mid-major conference are open. Conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament outside Nebraska involvement are widely bet.

Workarounds

Some Omaha bettors cross into Iowa and use legal mobile apps to bet Creighton games. Iowa, Kansas, Colorado and Missouri all allow betting on Nebraska teams via mobile. This is one of the central arguments for the 2026 ballot initiative.
