In-State Restrictions Apply

College Football Betting in Nebraska

College football is the cultural heart of Nebraska — but state law explicitly prohibits wagering on any game involving the Nebraska Cornhuskers or any other in-state college team. Every other FBS and FCS program is available at retail sportsbooks across the state.

The In-State Ban

LB 561 prohibits wagers on any game involving a college or university located in Nebraska. In practice this means no Cornhusker football bets at any Nebraska sportsbook — and the same rule covers Creighton, UNO, Wayne State and the rest. The ban applies even when the in-state team is the visitor in another state.

What Is Allowed

Every game between two non-Nebraska schools is open. Big Ten games not involving the Huskers, the entire SEC, ACC, Pac-12 (now reorganised), Big 12 outside Nebraska's conference rivals, all Group of Five conferences, and FCS games are all available. The College Football Playoff and bowl season are widely bet — except when Nebraska schools are participating, which is rare.

Why the Ban Exists

Lawmakers added the in-state college restriction to LB 561 to address concerns about player and student integrity in a market where Husker fandom is overwhelming. Several other US states have similar restrictions, though many have repealed them once mobile betting matured. The 2026 ballot initiative does not directly remove the college ban — but a future legislative review is plausible if mobile betting passes.
